I was born and raised in Columbia, SC. I graduated from USC as a Gamecock and even named my sweet fur baby, Caroline! My initial career path was Human Resources, earning a dual Master’s Degree in the field of Human Resources. I quickly discovered that I had an undying passion to help people. While working as an HR Manager, I started a mobile bartending business called the “The JW Group”, that I owned and operated for 17 years.

My first business venture opened so many doors and allowed me to build many meaningful relationships around the Columbia area. While building relationships and providing services, I noticed a dire need for an event center from casual conversations with my clients.  This prompted me to open my 1st event venue in 2016, called “The Gala by JW”. We served the public so well, that shortly after, I was able to open my 2nd event venue “The Gwynn” (inspired by my mother Gwendolyn) the following year.

In 2021, I saw the perfect opportunity to expand and relocated the Gala to 1801 Bush River Rd. My mission has always been to offer a new approach to the traditional venue experience. With over 6,000 sqft of space, we are definitely growing and constantly expounding on new ideas.

Within our new location, we have recently incorporated All-Inclusive Wedding packages. Our packages are designed to alleviate the complexity brides face in planning for their special day.  We offer several packages from intimate Elopements to weddings that can accommodate up to 150 guests. We have day of coordinating, planning and a list of our most preferred vendors to ensure we provide an amazing one-of-a-kind stress-free event. We simply ask our brides to “show up” and we will take care of the rest!
